Goal: To provide field-based technology integration experiences to pre-service educators

Students in this course will be matched with classroom teachers to help integrate technology into the classroom.

Course Information:

We will meet as a class 3 times during the semester. The remainder of the semester will be working in the classroom with a time amenable to both the student and the classroom teacher. It is possible that this course can be taken concurrently with PDS on-site courses. We will be working with each student on an individual basis.

The first class will meet Monday, January 24th 5:30 pm-8:30 p.m. in Matthews Hall.

The second class will meet Monday, February 21, 5:30 p.m. in Matthews Hall.

The final class with presentations will meet the week of May 1st with a day and time to be agreed upon by the class.

Expectations:

There are three required class meetings. There will assignments to turn in via email or posted to the listserv on a regular basis. In a course of this nature, it is important to maintain communication to make sure everything is going smoothly.

You are about to be a professional educator. As such, you are expected to arrive on time for arranged meetings with your cooperating classroom teachers, adhere to the school’s dress code, etc. This course requires a great deal of self motivation and responsibility. I expect you will get as much out of it as you put into it. It can be a very rewarding experience and perhaps lead to future job possibilities!

In addition to the required attendance, you are expected to spend about six hours per week (on average) working on this course. It may take many forms — from your being in the classroom to working on a webpage at home or in the lab.

You will be responsible for arranging two meetings with either the CECS instructor or the team teacher at your school site with your cooperating teacher to either meet with the teacher or observe you working with the children (it will vary according to your individual plan).

Requirements:

You will be responsible for developing a technology integration plan of action with your cooperating teacher that is satisfactory to him/her, sharing information with your classmates via a listserv and turning in assignments.

Grades will be earned based upon the following requirements:

Returning cooperating teacher form 5 %
Acceptable Use Policy 10%
Listserv weekly questions 20%
Technology Integration Action plan 20%
Implementation of plan 20%
          Rubric/Assessment of Plan
          Observation of plan (onsite)
Arrangement of meetings  5%
Cooperating Teacher Evaluation 10%
Presentation to CECS 4800 class 10%

Grades will be calculated by the following scale:

A = 90% or more

B = 80 to 89.4%

C = 70 to 79.4%

D = 60 to 69.4%

F = Below 60%
