You are required to complete the following tasks during the scope of this course.
 
  • Required assignments:



  • A1: Finding Thematic Resources for Curricular Unit  Due: Wednesday, Oct. 19th at the beginning of class

    Finding Thematic Resources

    Using criteria discussed in class, find 5 resources on the topic you have selected for your unit.
    Find at least one software resource, at least one Internet project, and at
    least one web site. The additional two resources may be any of those three types of resources.

    Due: October 19, 2005 at the beginning of class.
    Turn in: 1 print-out of everything. Include the cover sheet like sample provided (word processed) and printouts of the websites.



    A2: Unit Website  Due: Monday, Oct. 31st at the beginning of class

    You are to create a website related to your unit topic. Your website should include at least:

      3 links to other quality websites to support your unit
      1 link to your Unit Plan (Your unit plan will not be complete but you should link to the most current version.)
      1 page with references/credits
      1  graphic image

    Due: October 31, 2005 at the beginning of class
    Turn in: a print-out of each page of your website (only the pages you created). It will be ftp'd to the courseweb server
    so we can view it from our class webpage. You will be given more specific directions on the format in which you will
    turn in the electronic version. 



    A3: PowerPoint Presentation of Unit Information  Due: Wednesday, Nov. 16th at the beginning of class
    <>Assignment 3 is a PowerPoint presentation of  your Unit Plan components.
     
    Your presentation will include components of your unit including:
        - unit title and author of unit (you!)<>
        - subject area and grade level targeted
        - essential question
        - unit questions
        - learning objectives
        - state standards your unit is targeting
        - an example of a sofware package or website that is a good resource
        -  at least eight slides (and not more than 12)
        - an assessment tool for your PowerPoint presentation
        - Include a citation for any graphics or "borrowed" information on the final slide.

    Due: November 16, 2005 at the beginning of class
    Turn in: 1 copies of your PowerPoint presentation (6 slides to a page)
    Be prepared to share/show your presentation.

     



    A4: Student Sample - Newsletter or Brochure  Due: Monday, Nov. 14th at the beginning of class

    Student sample (what you would expect your K-12 students to produce) of a newsletter or brochure
    ( see TTF Module 4 for more details or tutorial). This assignment should meet the following criteria:

        Newsletter should be age appropriate for the grade you are targeting (use 2 or 3 column format)
          Brochure of 4-6 panels (on 8.5x11 sized paper)
          Content should be in the theme of your unit plan
          Must be produced in MS-Publisher
          Alter one of the sample rubrics or checklists (or create your own from scratch) to use for evaluation of your student's work
           Include your citation for any information or graphics that are not original from you. These should be somewhere on the
           newsletter or brochure.

    Due: November 14, 2005 at the beginning of class.
    Turn in: a print-out of your newsletter or brochure and the evaluation rubric or checklist



    A5: Final Unit Portfolio  Due: Monday, Dec. 5th at the beginning of class

    Assignment 5 is the updated and completed Unit Portfolio.

    The following components should be included:
      Title
      Essential Questions (overarching question)
      Unit Questions
      Unit Summary
      Subject Area(s)
      Grade Level(s)
      Student Objectives/Learning Outcomes
      State  (TEKS) and National Standards (ISTE)
      Procedures
      Time Requirements
      Prerequisite Skills
      Materials and Resources Required for Unit
      Accommodations for Differentiated Instruction
      Student Assessment

        Student sample of newsletter or brochure (A4)
        Print-out of your website (A2)
        PowerPoint presentation (A3)

    Be prepared to present your Portfolio to the class. You will actively participate in the assessment of
    your peers' portfolios and presentations.

    Due: December 5, 2005 at the beginning of class.
    Turn in: A copy of the Portfolio in some type of organized binder or folder.
