Today we are going to step through the Mac OS X interface, and gain some insight into what I call the computing metaphor—a brief look at the dynamics of GUI design from the field of Human-Computer Interaction/Interface (HCI). Why is this important? Mainly, because HCI is a dynamic field; the various OS's are constantly evolving, incorporating familiar features, as well as new elements, into interface designs. Also, it is important to be able move among various computer interface designs; you do not know what you will encounter when you progress into your professional career: Windows, Mac (old or new OS), or some flavor of Linux (Fedora, Debian, etc). |
