Assignment 1:  (Due: Wed., June 9, 2004)

Gather some data related to educational computing/educational technology and organize/present it in a fashion understandable by your peers. Choose a topic of interest to you but be certain to make your selection in the context of a theoretical framework/research questions (heart of assignment 2). It is Ok to begin your analysis process in the context of “I wonder if …” (exploratory fashion) buy you should have in the back of your mind some guiding principles that will allow you to eventually contribute to the body of knowledge about your topic. 

Turn in (submit to listserv):

  1. Topic of interest.
  2. Copy of survey used (or other itemized list of wording of questions and possible responses)
  3. Code sheet (itemization of names of variables in data set and definitions of possible values they can have in the data set (ex: Gender: 1 = male, 2 = female)
  4. Tab-delimited text file or Excel spreadsheet with raw data in spss-readable format .

Assignment 2: (Due: Wed., June 9, 2004)

Write a one-page theoretical foundation/literature review for your topic and use it as a springboard for 1-3 research questions you plan to address through analysis of your data. Include the following components in your submission:

  1. Theoretical foundcation/literature review
  2. Itemized list of research questions
  3. Reference list

Value: 10 Points


Assignment 3:  (Due: Monday, June 14, 2004)

Prepare a powerpoint case study presentation of your topic to introduce it to the class.  Include the following slides:

  1. Title/Introduction of Topic
  2. Theoretical rationale
  3. Research questions
  4. Analysis techniques
  5. Problems/dilemmas

Value: 10 Points


Final Project/Paper + Presentation (Due: Wed June 30 (+2 bonus points) or Friday, July 2, 6:30 pm.)

Produce a 10-20 page paper (3500 word max) in standard APA format describing your findings and relating them to the literature.  Build this from assignments 1, 2, 3. Include the following components:

For your presentation of your findings (5 minutes), build on the powerpoint slides from Assignment 3.

Value: 50 points.
